Qichen wu

This is my final outcome. I spent about two weeks to preparing and making this model. The materials used to make this model are foam board, ruler, scissors, different glues, plastic glass, colored plastic glass, magnifying glass, play-doh, crystal play-doh, colored wooden sticks, wooden sticks, knives, cutting machines, LED lights, printers, crystal plastic balls, etc.

The first floor of the model is the normal exhibition space, and the second floor is the sculpture exhibition space of transparent wall and floor.

People standing on the second floor can see the cross light source, which is my inspiration through the CHURCH OF LIGHT, so I used transparent plastic to make the floor of the second layer.

The third floor is an art exhibition space in a virtual space. I used a transparent plastic board of neon pink as the third floor. In some parts of this space, I used a lot of crystal plasticine asthe floor. Some digital 3D printing sculptures were made with glue guns. The sculptures were inspired by artist Kevin mack. I also used crystal plasticizer as the foundation of the roof, glued crystal plastic balls onto iof I putted colourful LED light around the third floor. Through a magnifying glass, I could see that roof seemed to be a virtual red space, and the whole third floor space was like a virtual planetary space.

These are the internal space of my exhibition model.

I putted some tiny objects as sculptures on the second floor.

I decide to use these two transparent plastic for the second floor and the third floor.

I found tutor to help me using a special machine to cut this square out. Therefore，the staircase can go through to the third floor.

In week 9，I spent a lot of time making the model, a lot of detail took me a lot of time. For example, cutting glass and magnifying glass by machine, I always find the size is not the same because of the cutting problem, so I keep cutting and making the model again and again, which takes a lot of time. The preparation and selection of some materials also brought me a lot of difficulties. In solving these difficulties, I have made many attempts and abandoned. Some of the things that cost me lots of time to made，at the end I just gave up because it didn’t look right and then redid it. Next week, and it is the last week, I will spend more time on my model. I hope that the third layer of the model can bring a different feeling to visitors, a sense of virtual space. I will combine the works of artist Kevin mack to make some innovations and attempts in inspiration.

In this week，I focused on making my final model. Firstly，I made an art installation to putted into the square place. This installation comes from my artist responses，and I arranged the colourful light around this installation. I hope this model can be the light source，express the visual space atmosphere in the first group. And when I look at this model from the plan view，I can see the light effect which inspired by CHURCH OF LIGHT.

However，Considering the need to build a staircase leading to the second floor, I found that this installation was not the best choice. So, I made a staircase, which was inspired by this picture, and I wound colored lights around the pillars of the staircase. Therefore, this staircase not only solves the problem of light source, but also solves the problem of visiting to upstairs.

This staircase can go through the ground floor to the third floor. This is the final outcome of the ground floor of my model. I arranged LED light around each artwork.

The effect of the inspiration of CHURCH OF LIGHT

This week I did some model development, and I tried to combine my graphic designs into my model. I used three methods to try to combine. The first is that I put these patterns on the wall of the art exhibition with photoshop, the second is that I put these patterns on the floor of the art exhibition, and the third is that I put these patterns on the door of the art exhibition. My aim is to create an atmosphere of virtual space in this art exhibition.

Considering these points, I finally decided to put this graphic pattern on the door and art work. First of all, if it’s put on the wall as a background, and the pattern is colourful, lead to people will focus on the background wall rather than the artwork. In my opinion，It will loses its essence and its original purpose.

Secondary，i printed out the pattern and stick on the ground. I found it looks really bad because of image quality. The large picture prints out from the machine will become Low quality image. Therefore，I changed my idea.

Finally，These pattern are sticking on the door and artworks.

Also，I did five preliminary designs for my model. In the process, tutor gave me a lot of opinions. I found that the preliminary design I did before was too ordinary lack of creativity. So I did it again. This time I combined some of the designs with the design inspiration of Tadao Ando’s Light Church. This is a breakthrough for me. I learned a lot through tutor’s suggestion. I think this opens up my mind’s limitations. In the past, I tended to be logical, the creative thinking did not open.

After that，I used model to made 10 preliminary design. This process is really interesting，i enjoy to do this preliminary.

Eventually，I chose this design to present my idea. And this is inspired by the architecture CHURCH OF LIGHT.

In this week，I did an artists response for Barbara barry with workship Libo Cut. The surface of the matrix is printed，not the resess. The equipment i used are roller，glass，plastic，paper，ink，press and gauge.

Also，i starting to make the final model in this week，that took lots of time to design and measure the distance. This is the base of first ground of my model. The next step i will do some preliminary design of the floor plan.

I did some responses to graphic design whose inspiration source is Kevin mack. Through my 3d model, I responses to many different graphic designs. The styles of these designs are close to the artists research Kevin mack. After that, I will combine these pictures into the design of models. I hope to bring a virtual sense of space through the inspiration and responses of this artist’s works

In this week，i made artists responses that i made two 3D model which combined my primary and secondary research. I documented the process in my sketch book.

Also i did more artists research，these artists research are related my artists responses. Such like the colourful straws in the royal academy of arts sensing are responses my model made by colourful stick. Kevin mack is my favorite digital art artist. Next week，I would like to make some graphic design responses to him.

Finally，I decide to take this place as my final exhibition space. I went to this area took the pictures and used tape rule to measure the distance of each side. I present some photos of the space for the exhibition room in our school.

Also，I drew an exhibition floor plan and an accommodation floor plan practices. These floor plans i drew from Internet. Firstly，i found some video to teaching me how to draw a floor plan in a right way. After that，i tried to understand what is the structure of this accommodation. Now，i realized how to complete a floor plan in a right way，i think the most important things are distance and proportion. For the next step i will make the base of final model with this technique. In my opinion，this technique will help me to making an exactly distance for my model.
